Conservative Republican Representative Peter McCoy is a small business owner, dedicated public servant, and devoted husband and father who cares deeply about the future of our state and nation.

Elected in 2010 to represent South Carolina's barrier islands, defeating an incumbent Democrat, Peter has been a leader in creating jobs and ending wasteful spending.

Working for fiscal sanity, Peter was named a “Taxpayer Hero” by the budget watchdog Club for Growth. He was recognized as the Lowcountry's strongest free enterprise Representative by the South Carolina Business and Industry Political Education Committee. Peter was one of only six South Carolina Representatives to support all 17 pro-jobs, pro-business bills scored by the Chamber of Commerce.

Fighting off big-government special interests, Peter worked hard to pass legislation that improves our charter schools, gives parents the opportunity to pick the best education environment for their children, and directs more funding away from bureaucrats and into classrooms.

A former criminal prosecutor who walks the walk in being tough on crime, Peter authored the Mandatory Reporting of Child Sexual Abuse bill and worked to impose a mandatory minimum for criminals who attempt murder on law enforcement officers.

Peter and his wife Jennifer, a former Charleston County public school teacher and now a criminal prosecutor, are the proud parents of one daughter, Mae Loflin. Together, they attend Grace Episcopal Church and live on James Island.
